Summer Songs

We started off the year writing songs about our favourite summer experiences. This helped students to remember note values, how to match word sounds to notes, play instruments and get to know their classmates a little better.

Once students had written their music they were asked to make small groups, play their songs for each other and then provide feedback so that students could reflect on their work and make changes to their work based on suggestions and compliments from their peers. As a district and school we are working on teaching our students how to assess themselves and others better. We begin by looking at criteria and examples, then give critiques that are kind and specific and from that we can help each other reflect and become better together at what we do.
